Contents Page Analysis

I have made some more detailed analysis on a contents page that features within my moodboard that I made. Most of the alalysis is annotated around the image here:

Expanding on what is mentioned through the annotations is the use of the 'v' shape that the person featured is making. This is something that looks interesting to use as it puts emphasis on the name of the magazine which is 'vibe' in the magazine featured here. This could be something I may use in the imagery I will collect for the magazine I will be making as it is a nice reference back to the magazine.

The other thing I need to make sure I need to do is to alter text font, size and colour to emphasise certain things within the contents page like page numbers and titles. This makes key things on the page stand out and also prevents the page from looking boring.

Magazine Audience Survey

I have made a survey to gather information on the audience of an electric magazine. This includes things such as what colour scheme you expect to see in an electric magazine and the artists associated with the genre are included. Here is the questionnaire, please complete:

Electric/hip hop Magazine Mood Board

I have made a mood board for the genre I want to do to gain inspiration from in my work. I tried to get magazine covers and contents page that are similar in style to what I like my magazine to be like with a similar type of music content that I want to do. Here is the mood board I made:

I am going to go into more depth of these specific examples so I can see specifically what makes a good magazine front cover and contents page. What I have noticed however is the layers on the magazines with the cover artist being in front of the name with the lists of contents being layered on top of the picture. I have also noticed there being about a specific set of colour (around 3) they use for the text and imagery.

Magazine Coursework Genre

I have decided to base my magazine on a electro/hip hop genre of music. This is because I am interested in that kind of music which is quick and with good bass and is also the kind of music I like to listen to. I thought that it would be a good idea to work on something that I have an interest in and that I may have some knowledge about. The sort of artists I like to listen to are people like example, DJ Fresh, Tinie Tempah and David Guetta who all fit under this genre.

Kerrang Front Cover Research

I have also have done some research into another front cover which is Kerrang. This is of a completely different theme to the other front cover I have analysed (Rock). This is to get a good comparison on how different themed magazines are layed out to help me decide what I want to with the magazine I need to make. Vibe Front Cover Research

 

I have researched into a couple of front covers for music magazines. One of the front covers I have looked into is the front cover for Vibe magazine which is a hip hop/RnB themed magazine.
